The Board

The board of Max Foundation is relatively small and consists of five volunteers. The board meets every six weeks and supports the team with expertise, oversight and outreach.

Joost van de Meent - Chairman

Besides his current function as Senior Managing Director and his preceding 16 years of experience at Accenture Resources Industries, Joost is active as Chairman of the Max Foundation Board since 2015. Joost relentlessly supports and pushes us forward in our mission, to prevent child mortality and increase child health in the most effective way.

Marleen van Thienen - Financial specialist and controller

As the most recent addition to the Board, Marleen brings in her valuable experience as consultant, controller and manager. She obtained her specialist skills at companies such as Pricewaterhouse Coopers, Delta Lloyd, Rabo Securities and Providence Capital. In 2017 she founded Van10en BV, her own venture in capital management. For Max Foundation, Marleen is also actively involved as a volunteer in the development of Max Payment by Result (MaxPBR) and the social enterprise Max Water Social Business.

Nico Terra - WASH specialist

Nico Terra joined the Board of Max Foundation in 2015 and is inspired by the business-like approach of the Foundation and the focus on sustainability of the services provided. Nico has many years of experience in international cooperation and large-scale programs in the field of water and sanitation for the poorest in Africa and Asia. He has been the director of IRC International Water and Sanitation Centre in The Hague. He has also been responsible for the post-2015 strategy and fundraising of the Dutch WASH Alliance, an alliance of a large number of Dutch, African and Asian NGOs in the field of water and sanitation. Nico lives in Amsterdam, is married and has three adult daughters.
